Dr. Jay Calvert, a plastic surgeon based in Los Angeles, performed effective surgical methods on young patients who don’t enough money for surgical care. Together with other surgeons and advocates, he rallied to form Surgical Friends Foundation, a group that aims to provide surgical care for patients who have no chance of receiving the operation either because of lack of medical facilities or monetary resources.

Elena, a patient of Dr. Calvert, was diagnosed with congenital malformation of eyelids, nose and maxilla. Dr. Calvert performed nasal reconstruction on her, while Dr. Parsa took over the reconstruction of her eyelids. “My goal is to create physical harmony,” says Dr. Calvert, he also added that, “when things aren’t there or they aren’t normal, creating normalcy from the abnormal is very, very tough. That’s also my passion.” Dr. Calvert firmly believes in the important role of surgeons in their patients’ healthcare. “As Surgeons, we are the ones who are privy to the joy and the transformation that these patients really go through when their physical deformities are corrected,” he explained.
