For the growing number of women whom have elected to have breast augmentation surgery done, many wish they would have been given certain common sense tips about what to do and what not to do post-op and how to prepare themselves and their homes for recovery. Breast augmentation is a painful cosmetic surgery. While preparing for surgery there are certain steps you should take that most doctors do not think to tell their patients.
To best learn how you will feel post-op, walk through your home with your arms duct taped to your sides. This is about the range of motion you will poses after to surgery. If there is something you can not reach, such as dishes, pots and pans, your phone, etc., you will need to rearrange. All necessary items will need to be placed within this comfort zone for at least two weeks after surgery.
Pain medications prescribed after surgery will make you feel nauseous. Light, dry foods can help combat this, as well as prescription medications your doctor may give you. It is a good idea to go grocery shopping and get at least two weeks worth of supplies. Buy light foods, such as crackers, soups, apple sauce and fruits. Foods that require little or no preparation and are nutritious are highly recommended.
Cook a few meals ahead of time. If you are prone to heartburn stay away from tomato based dishes. Soft foods and foods that will not require cutting are best. Good examples of pre-cooked meals that can be frozen and reheated easily are chili, spaghetti, vegetable soup, stew, runzas, etc.
Clean your house top to bottom. Do all your laundry, change your sheets on your bed and set up a bed on your couch. Get any vacuuming and dusting out of the way now, as you will not feel like doing it for at least two weeks post-op. Make sure to have new bottles of shampoo and conditioner in your shower, as squeezing out of old bottles will be painful for a while.
Find all your loose fitting, comfortable, soft clothing and set it out. You will not want to search for these things after surgery. Button up shirts are recommended. Pullover sweaters are basically a bad idea, as you will stretch your range of motion beyond what is comfortable or wise. Buy several bras that are unpadded and are the appropriate cup size for after your breast augmentation.
