Dr. Jay Calvert, MD, FACS, who guests at the Tyra Banks’ show to offer free consultation to surgical patients, performed a different surgical approach to a woman with a deformed nose. The deformation was caused by a targeted attack done to her by her very own workmate. The said officemate, whom she thought was her friend, bit the patient’s nose and removed a large part of it. Since then, the woman’s confidence decreased to the point that she even convinced her husband to go outside the marriage because she felt unattractive.
“Out of 21 doctors, only one doctor would see my case” said Jennifer Hamilton. “We had a lot of doctors that we went to that had no interest at her all, didn’t want anything to do with her, said it couldn’t be done or just didn’t care” adds Chris Hamilton, Jennifer’s husband. The couple was left with no hope, until they found Dr. Jay Calvert, who was eager to see the patient.
Dr. Calvert was convinced that he might be able to do something for Jennifer. He thinks that other surgeons who have seen Jennifer would suggest putting new tissues in her nose. But contrary to this, Dr. Calvert believes that all the tissues are already on her nose. He also believes that it only takes some creativity to see beyond the defect. Therefore, instead of trying to put tissues on the patient’s nose, which would give her a big nose that she might have had before, part of Dr. Calvert’s solution is to create a new and beautiful nose from all the tissues that are already there. This kind of surgical approach would produce optimum results.
Dr. Calvert admitted to the patient’s husband that it was a very difficult operation, but the operation turned out well and was considered a success. He also assured him that this might help Jennifer bring back her lost self-esteem.
Aside from being an expert in rhinoplasty and other nasal reconstruction cases, Dr. Calvert also performs other types of plastic surgery and specializes in aesthetic surgery including face-lifts, and breast augmentation. Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Calvert earned his medical degree at the Cornell University Medical College in New York and completed his seven-year combined General and Plastic Surgery Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He is now based in Los Angeles and is seeing new patients every week at his offices in Beverly Hills and Newport Beach.
