Plastic Surgeon Says Education Source of His Skill, Compassion

“Every person has their own vision of beauty. My goal is to develop a treatment plan designed to help each individual achieve their aesthetic goals safely and effectively.”

That’s the philosophy of Dr. Jay Calvert, MD, FACS, one of the leading plastic surgeons in the U.S. and a medical professional who believes in combining the needs and the desires of the patient with the skills and technology he has acquired over the years.

His keen understanding of this crucial link has led to him appearing as a plastic surgery expert on such national television programs as The Tyra Banks Show, Dr. Phil, Inside Edition and The Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as speaking appearances across the country as a strategist and motivator.

But first and foremost are his skills as a surgeon, which began when he earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Weill Medical College at Cornell University Medical College in New York City, one of the top-ranked clinical and medical research centers in the country. After medical college, Dr. Calvert received his general and plastic surgery training at The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), a renowned academic medical center which typically admits only one person for admission into the extremely competitive Integrated Plastic Surgery Training Program each year.

It was at UPMC that Dr. Calvert was exposed to the academic rigor complex surgical cases that make him well equipped to serve the complete plastic surgery needs of his patients.

“There is no substitute for superior technical ability coupled with a keen aesthetic eye,” Dr. Calvert states. “My goal is to create a brighter, natural look so my patients appear as a younger version of themselves.”

Dr. Calvert stresses that with all of his vast medical knowledge, recognizing the individual needs of the patient is the key to success for both parties involved. Take his outlook on breast augmentation for women.

“I strive to produce a natural enhanced look by balancing the capabilities of the surgical techniques with the woman's desires and anatomy,” he said. “Since each woman is unique, each operation must be tailored to produce the best possible outcome for each patient.”

Or consider his viewpoint on the elements of a successful rhinoplasty.

“Additionally, it takes a compassionate surgeon to understand your concerns and to answer your questions when it comes to having your nasal operation revised.”

It is this skill combined with compassion that has made Dr. Calvert a well-respected member of several medical societies, including The American College of Surgeons, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and The Rhinoplasty Society.

In addition, Dr. Calvert is a Fellow, American College of Surgeons (FACS), a member of the American Medical Association, the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Plastic Surgery Research Council and the Los Angeles Society of Plastic Surgeons.

Dr. Calvert is a board-certified member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and serves the Beverly Hills, Orange County and Los Angeles area. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on plastic surgery and has presented his techniques at national and international conferences.
