California Plastic Surgeon Becoming Top Choice for Revision Surgery

With the number of people turning to plastic surgery, and in particular rhinoplasty, to improve their looks and their self-esteem rising each year, the number of people who are ultimately unsatisfied with their procedure is no doubt rising as well.

According to a survey by a national plastic surgery association, approximately 15 percent of people who undergo rhinoplasty opt to undergo revision rhinoplasty, either because of necessity or person preference. That statistic doesn’t take into account the many other patients who are unsatisfied but are reluctant to undergo the procedure a second time.

But one California plastic surgeon, thanks to his extensive experience, has become the go-to professional for revision rhinoplasty, so much so that other plastic surgeons have begun referring their patients to him for revision surgery themselves.

Dr. Jay Calvert, MD, FACS, brings an intensive approach to a delicate area of plastic surgery, that of performing additional work on an area of the patient that has often been previously attended to by another physician while also re-instilling confidence in the procedure in a patient that may be wary of undergoing the operation again.

“Revision of a previous rhinoplasty operation is a technically exacting endeavor,” explains Dr. Calvert, who has provided expert plastic surgery insight on such television talk shows as The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Tyra Banks Show. “Additionally, it takes a compassionate surgeon to understand your concerns and to answer your questions when it comes to having your nasal operation revised.”

Dr. Calvert applies the same techniques to revision rhinoplasty as he applies to the many primary rhinoplasty operations he performs as well. Using his skill as an artist and surgeon, Dr. Calvert meticulously shapes the nose to fit the face of the individual.

“No two faces are exactly alike,” Dr. Calvert explains, “so I take the entire facial presentation into account when evaluating rhinoplasty patients and establishing a treatment plan with each patient.”

The procedure involves several complex techniques, Dr. Calvert said, and sometimes employs the use of rib cartilage grafts, ear cartilage grafts, septum and fascia (a thin tissue membrane). Through these procedures, Dr. Calvert rebuilds noses that have been damaged by trauma or are unsatisfactory to the patient following the original procedure. So adept is Dr. Calvert at rebuilding noses that are aesthetically pleasing and functional that he has become one of the leading practitioners in this area.

But beyond his skills as a plastic surgeon, Dr. Calvert is lauded by fellow surgeons and patients alike for his compassionate approach to patient care.

“Every person has their own vision of beauty,” Dr. Calvert states. “My goal is to develop a treatment plan designed to help each individual achieve their aesthetic goals safely and effectively.”

Dr. Calvert is a board-certified member of the American Board of Plastic Surgery and serves the Beverly Hills, Orange County and Los Angeles area. He has published numerous peer-reviewed articles on plastic surgery and has presented his techniques at national and international conferences.
