LIFT TREATMENT FOR SAGGING ARMS

One of the most popular aesthetic procedures today is the arm lift, or arm tuck.  The recent popularity of this cosmetic surgery is due to two major trends taking place, the first being bariatric treatment procedures which result in very rapid weight loss with the result of excess skin drooping under the arm.  The second reason for the spike in popularity of the arm tuck is simply a patient’s desire to rectify their sagging arms after either natural weight loss, or as a result of aging skin.  Some people have a less elastic type of skin than others and so the natural aging process can result in a bit of sag.
While the condition doesn’t by itself cause any particular serious problems, it can be a major nuisance to both woman and men today as they are concerned about their appearance while sleeveless and sometimes because of this they will not even allow themselves to wear sleeveless- even short sleeved- shirts and blouses.
Body contouring procedures such as the arm lift are sometimes recommended in conjunction with other procedures- in this case it’s common to qualify for liposuction in addition to the lift.  Sometimes the arm lift by itself would offer an incomplete result when the patient still has a significant amount of fat storage in the arm.
Typically an uncomplicated procedure, it can require several weeks of recovery and some patients can experience pains for up to a year- a fairly common phenomenon among the more invasive procedures, especially on parts of the body which are free moving rather than more ‘fixed’, such as with a nose-job (rhinoplasty).  Expect a wait of up to two weeks before returning to light work, while up to six weeks are needed for full recovery and the ability to work normally and at full momentum.
Largely, the benefits outweigh any recovery time involved- just as with any other elective aesthetic procedure.  Patients get the immediate benefit of smaller and firmer arms, and as they heal they enjoy the freedom of wearing short sleeved and sleeveless blouses and t-shirts once again.
Patients should be certain to find a board certified cosmetic surgeon for any invasive procedure, and should feel comfortable with their doctor and the procedure after the initial consultation.
