History of the liposuction procedure

Liposuction is a procedure done on the body to remove unwanted fat cells and help to thin and contour the body shape.  Dr. Giorgio Fischer was the first person to begin performing liposuction procedures in 1974.  His primary profession was gynecology. He is the prestigious son of Arpad Fischer. In 1956, Arpad Fischer was the very first person to start performing cosmetic surgery in Italy and his son followed his path to greatness to found the International Academy of Cosmetic Surgery.  In the year 1978 two French doctors began to develop these liposuction techniques and advancing the procedures.  The procedure became very popular in most countries of the world and by 1980 America was deeply into cosmetic surgery and liposuctions.

When liposuction first came to the United States it was not a very sought after practice. The techniques being used were leaving the patients in pain with scaring and loose rippling skin. The unattractive after effects of these procedures made them unwanted by most Americans. It was not until 1985 when a doctor from California revolutionized the way liposuction was performed by creating the tumescent technique. These new techniques completely changed the way liposuction was performed around the world. This new procedure was done with local anesthetic and did not cause the horrible side effects like the other techniques involved. This technique was able to cut the amount of time the procedure took in half making it faster, more efficient and safer.

The tumescent technique is still one of the most performed procedures in America. You are now able to remove the excess fat from around the waste, hips, thighs, back, chest, etc with no scarring, loose skin, bunching or stretch marks. New techniques are being discovered every day, but the newest most promising procedure is by using laser lights to gently dissolve the fat cells within the body. This technique is highly successful with only minimal side effects being reported. Some of the most common side effects include temporary redness and swelling, itching or burning on or around the area. All of these side effects are temporary and usually last no longer than a couple of days.

The typical recovery time is immediate with most patients able to leave the plastic surgeons office with the weight lifted from their bodies and no unwanted side effects.  When looking for the bes plastic surgeon to perform your liposuction remember to choose only those who are associated with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
