Dr. Jay Calvert, a plastic surgeon from Los Angeles, introduced a new procedure to the public, which he called LA Lip Enhancement. This new method promises to provide clients with lips that will look more full. LA Lip Enhancement is a surgical operation that enhances of the lips by making use of the patient's own tissue to increase the size of the lips and the area surrounding it, resulting to a more youthful mouth and lips.
The LA Lip Enhancement treatment is designed for people who want to enhance the appearance of their perioral region, which is the area around the lips, and the lips itself, with the use of their own tissue. The surgical candidate does not need to have thin lips, but the operation is mostly used for increasing the size of the lip region. Several patients who have undergone this procedure were previously using Collagen or Restylane treatments, and were positive about the results. However, these two treatments require a return visit every three or six months in order to re-inject the products.
“I originally created this operation as an additional technique for patients undergoing rhinoplasty or facelift surgery,” explained Dr. Calvert when asked how he developed this new surgical operation. “It [LA Lip Enhancement] has [now] become a primary procedure for many patients in my practice,” he added. The operation combines two procedures that work together to produce optimum results. It is done on an outpatient basis and uses a local anesthesia for sedation. The first step is to excise a thin strip of skin, usually from an old scar, and to implant it through the upper lip and lower lip. Then, the next step is to harvest fat from the abdomen, hips or knees and inject it into the lips. The two-step procedure creates an enhanced, natural-looking lips.
Another benefit of this method is the lowered risk on the hazards of lip enhancement because the fats and skin being used came from the patient’s body, The possibility of body developing allergic reactions and rejecting the skin and fat is minimized up to the point of elimination.
Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Dr. Jay Calvert has developed many effective methods for cosmetic surgery other than the LA lip enhancement. He also performs other surgical enhancement procedures including liposuction, rhinoplasty, breast augmentation and breast reconstruction. Dr. Calvert finished his seven-year combined General and Plastic Surgery Training Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
