Breast Augmentation, Should I Do It?

This is one of the vital questions that perhaps everyone woman in the world have asked themselves at some points in their lives. Along with that question comes a long list of never-ending questions under the same umbrella. If you’re a woman, have you asked yourself this question? If you’re a man, have you been asked this question by a girl; a girlfriend, mother, or just a friend perhaps? What were you answers? Were you truthful? Or just said what you were compelled to say. Anyways, here are some of the things you should know about breast augmentation. Read on…

It is commonly known as mammoplasty or breast enlargement/augmentation, or boob job. Breast augmentation involves inserting implants either over or under the pectoralis muscles which are the main muscles of the chest. There are also alternatives that are less expensive but less immediate and less dramatic, such as breast enlargement pills, breast enlargement creams, breast enlargement exercises and breast pumps. Women with implants are able and encouraged to breastfeed though implants may cause difficulties in nursing

Studies suggest that women who undergo breast implantation are slightly more likely to have undergone psychotherapy, have low levels of self-esteem, and have higher prevalences of depression, and mental illness (including body dysmorphia) as compared to the general population. They are nearly three times as likely to commit suicide, and risked death from alcohol and drug abuse as other women. Post-operative surveys have reported improvement on physical health, physical appearance, sexual function, social life, and self confidence/esteem. Overall, most patients report long-term satisfaction with their implants even when they have to be re-operated for complications or aesthetic reasons.

This surgical procedure is a major surgery and takes approximately one to two hours. Just like anything else, this could also sometimes cause problems like general anesthesia mistakes, breast implant ruptures which could be life threatening, sepsis or infection, difficulty in detection of breast abnormalities and tumors through mammography but sub-muscular implants are makes detection less difficult. Upon recovery, you won’t be able to resume to your normal activities right away and you’ll have to wear specially-padded bras and take painkillers to reduce pain and discomfort. This is a serious decision which you have to ponder over and over again before doing it. There are many dangers and risks and you have to ask yourself if your reasons to do it are worth it.

We suggest that breast implants should be a final resort. If you’ve done everything else you can for perfect female breasts and still not satisfied, then it's time to consider breast implants.
